Privacy policy
This policy explains how The Light Of God ("we", "us") handles personal information when you use this website. We have written it in plain English. We collect as little as we can, and today that is very little indeed.
Who we are
The Light Of God is a humanitarian organisation being established in London, United Kingdom. The Light Of God is currently being established and is not yet registered with the Charity Commission. For the purposes of UK data protection law, we are the controller of personal information collected through this website. You can reach us at hello@thelightofgod.org.uk or through our contact page.
The short version
- We do not use cookies, analytics, advertising trackers or third-party scripts on this website.
- When you send one of our forms, what you typed is emailed to our inbox so that we can reply. It is not stored on this website.
- We do not take payments on this website yet. Our donate page sends us an enquiry, and we will never ask for card details on our own pages or by email.
- Our website host keeps short-lived technical logs to keep the site secure and running.
- We will never sell your personal information.
What we collect
Technical information
When you visit any website, your browser shares technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. Our hosting provider processes this information in server logs to deliver the site, protect it from abuse and diagnose faults. These logs are kept for a short period and are not used to build profiles of visitors.
Forms
Our contact, volunteer, partnership, events and donation enquiry forms send what you type to our email inbox when you press submit. Nothing is collected until you do, and the website itself keeps no copy. We use what you send only to reply to you and to arrange what you asked about.
What each form asks for, and why
We collect the following only when you choose to give it:
- Messages, volunteering, events and partnership enquiries: your name, contact details and what you tell us, so we can reply and arrange what you asked about. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in responding to you, or taking steps at your request.
- Donation enquiries: your name, email, the gift you have in mind and anything you add, so we can reply and arrange it with you. No payment details are collected. Our lawful basis is taking steps at your request.
- Online donations, when they open: your name, email and donation details, processed by a regulated payment provider. We will never see or store your full card details. Our lawful basis will be performing our agreement with you and meeting legal obligations such as financial record-keeping. We will update this policy before payments are switched on.
- Updates by email: only if you opt in, and you can ask us to stop at any time. Our lawful basis is your consent.
- Volunteer safeguarding: for some roles, information needed for safeguarding checks such as a DBS check, handled under the specific rules that apply.
Who we share information with
We only share personal information with organisations that help us run our work. Today these are Cloudflare, which hosts this website and delivers form messages to us, and Google, which provides our email inbox. They act on our instructions and must protect your information. A payment provider will be named here before online donations open. We will share information if the law requires it.
International transfers
Some service providers, including website hosts, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we rely on the safeguards recognised by UK law, such as adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the reason it was collected. Hosting logs are kept for a short period. Enquiries are kept for as long as we need them to reply and to arrange what you asked about, and are deleted when they are no longer needed or when you ask us to. Financial records are normally kept for six years to meet legal requirements.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- ask us to delete your information
- object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use your information
- ask for your information in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
To use any of these rights, contact us. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (opens in a new tab), the UK's data protection regulator, although we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Children
This website is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Young people who want to volunteer or fundraise should involve a parent or guardian.
Links and sharing buttons
Our articles link to other websites, such as government and charity sources. Our share buttons can open WhatsApp or your email app. Those services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy whenever what we collect changes, and always before we switch on a new form, payment provider or analytics tool. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
