The Light Of God

Water changes
everything.

Our first campaign. £5,000 to help bring safe, clean water to a community that does not have it.

A human hand reaching toward a hand formed of clear water, their fingertips almost touching.

Clean water changes daily life.

Safe water means fewer journeys to collect it, less risk of illness, and more time for school, work and family.

  1. 2.1 billion

people, one in four of us, still have no safe drinking water at home.

  2. 200 million hours

are spent by women and girls every single day, carrying water home.

  3. 106 million

people drink straight from rivers, lakes and ponds, untreated, often shared with animals.

  4. Over 1,000

children under five die every day from illness linked to unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene.

  5. About 4 to 1

is what safe water and sanitation return: every pound invested comes back around four times in health and time.

Ink drawing: at dawn a girl steps out of a thatched hut holding an empty jerrycan, a long path winding away toward the hills.
Ink drawing: the girl walks a dusty path under a hot sun, a full jerrycan balanced on her head, her little brother beside her.
Ink drawing: the girl kneels to fill her jerrycan at a muddy waterhole where cattle are drinking.
Ink drawing: by lamplight a mother holds a cup to her sick little boy while the girl sits beside him.
Ink drawing: children gather at a new hand pump in the village, the boy drinking and laughing, the girl walking to school with her books.

One source, many ripples.

Water close to home changes far more than thirst.

  • Fewer people fall ill

Safe water cuts the stomach illness that keeps children out of school and parents out of work.

  • Hours come back

When water is close to home, the time spent fetching it can go to school, work and rest.

  • The weight is shared

In 7 of 10 households without water at home, women and girls are the ones who fetch it.

  • Families plan ahead

Reliable water helps families grow food, keep animals and earn a living.

How it will work

  1. Partner with people who know water

We intend to work with established, reputable organisations and trusted local partners who have delivered sustainable water projects before.

  2. Fund what lasts

Sustainable sources, maintenance and local ownership, so the water keeps flowing long after the ribbon is cut.

  3. Show you where it went

As the project moves forward we will publish updates, photographs and reports here, so every donor can see the impact.

A first step towards water that lasts.

Our first international campaign will support a sustainable clean water project, delivered through experienced local partners.

We intend to work through established, reputable organisations and trusted local partners who have delivered sustainable water projects before, including the upkeep that keeps water flowing.
